Espresso Machine Won’t Dispense Coffee: Common Causes and Solutions

Having trouble with your espresso coffee machine?

Sorry to hear that your espresso machine is not working properly.

No need to worry though, we can help you troubleshoot the issue and get your coffee flowing again.

Coffee not coming out of your espresso machine is commonly caused by a blocked filter, clogged portafilter, water flow issues, or machine malfunctions.

Here are some potential reasons why coffee might not be coming out of your espresso machine:

Blocked filter

If the coffee grounds are too fine or there is too much coffee in the filter, it can become blocked and prevent the coffee from coming out.

Try using less coffee or a coarser grind and see if that helps.

Clogged Portafilter

If the portafilter is dirty or has old coffee grounds stuck in it, it can become clogged and prevent the coffee from flowing.

Try cleaning the portafilter with warm water and a cloth or brush to remove any debris.

Tip: you can also use a cleaning tablet to soak the metal bit of the portafilter.

Water Flow Issue

If there is a problem with the water flow, it can prevent the coffee from coming out.

There are two possible causes for no flow from your group: a clog or a faulty brew valve.

Have you noticed anything unusual before the flow stopped?

Low flow would most likely indicate a clog, whereas strange noises would indicate a faulty valve.

Check that the water tank is full, the water pump is working, and there are no kinks in the water line.

Blocked Steam Wand

If the steam wand is blocked or dirty, it can cause a backflow and prevent the coffee from coming out.

Try cleaning the steam wand with warm water and a cloth or brush.

Machine malfunction

If none of the above solutions work, it’s possible that there is a malfunction with the machine itself.

In this case, it might be best to consult the manufacturer or a professional technician.
